If you've never been to the White
Mountains of New Hampshire, it's well worth the trip. The mountains
themselves are spectacular, as is the surrounding countryside.
Mount Washington. We had intended
to drive to the top, but an early snow storm closed the road.
We did, however, take a cable car
to the top of the mountain at Franconia Notch State Park. According
to the operator, you could "see 90 miles to Vermont."
Vermont is also a
great place to go in the fall, provided you don't mind the crowds.
New England was the only place we had a problem securing a place
to stay for the night. We finally found a musty old ski lodge
west of Bennington, VT and were lucky to get it. The next day
we wandered a bit off the road and found this little pond with
the early morning mist still on it.
Couldn't leave New England without
capturing at least one covered bridge. This was it. We found
it in Bennington, Vermont.
