This is the mouth of the Saguenay River where it meets the
St. Lawrence. Whales (les baleines) like to gather here in the mix of salt and fresh water
to take advantage of the abundant fishing opportunities. Unfortunately, we arrived too
late in the day to go on a whale watching cruise. Others we met who did go on a cruise
reported having seen more than fifty whales of all sorts within two hours. |

We pulled into St. Rose du Nord, a small
hamlet village in the middle of nowhere at dusk, just when it was starting to rain. I have
only a couple of [good] photos of this region due to the inclement weather. We took a
chance on getting soaked the next morning and climbed a mountainous trail to get this
birds-eye view of the situation. What you see here is the aerial view of the village
of St. Rose du Nord.
